GEZUBUSO WEEKEND CAMP AND FUN DAY
This really worthwhile project is planning an amazing, fun filled weekend for the foster children at Sunshine House during the short September school break.
The children are very rarely taken away for a holiday, purely because of the financial implications of hiring a bus to carry them all to a holiday destination – if they are fortunate enough to have a holiday; they have to go in stages rather than all at once. This in itself is stressful, not only for the children but for everyone involved in their upbringing and care so the idea of holding this camp is to give the children a really fun time which they can enjoy together as a family.
The children will be taken to Juanita Mackay’s smallholding just outside Pietermaritzburg for a three night camp out……Friday 24th September to Monday morning, 27th September. On Saturday, there will be a FUN DAY with a jumping castle for the little ones, lots of games and races and of course, lots of foods, sweets and crisps. Because “junk food” is never on offer or available to the children, they will really enjoy the treat of being able to munch away on what is usually forbidden foods. There will be 31 children between the ages of 3 and 18 with 13 Foster Mums, Staff and Volunteers (44 in total).
Cash donations are needed for:
- Hire of tents
- Hire of toilets
- Meat and Groceries for 3 days Breakfasts, 3 days Lunches and 3 nights Suppers
- Prizes for races and games Sweets, cold drinks and crisps (regular junk food)
- Old clothing which can be used for a “dressing up” concert which the children will put on
No matter the size of the donation, you can be certain that it will be enormously appreciated and put to really good use.
We will keep you updated on the progress of our “fund raising” efforts and you will be sure to see loads of happy faces when the photographs of this fun time are taken in the last week of September.
